The first performance of children´s folk dance group called "Matičiarik" took place in Nové Zámky in February 1993. The founders of this folk group are PaedDr. Jana Garajova and Mgr. Ladisla Dráfi.
Their aim was to lead the children to folk songs and dances and show them the beauty of Slovak folk traditions. It was recognized that children even at the end of the 20th century still like dancing and singing of traditional dances and songs.
The first cheography of the ensemble was "Húsky, húsky, poďte domov" ("Goslings, goslings, come home").
Later on, there have been done and performed many songs and dances from different regions of Slovakia. Matičiarik has brought up a lot of successful singers who have won many competitions with their excellent performance of folk songs.
